Stories Inspire with Moments of Clarity

A wonderful article Why Inspiration Matters published in the Harvard Business Review.
Pyschologists Todd M. Thrash and Andrew J. Elliot connect inspiration to insight.

“This moment of clarity is often vivid, and can take the form of a grand vision, or a “seeing” of something one has not seen before (but that was probably always there).”

The authors note that being in a state of openness is an essential core component enabling the presence of inspiration. For those of us who work with strategic narrative this state of openness is referred to a “narrative analysis”. In this state we are open to questioning what we know because the authenticity of a story holds within it the power for us to reconsider…. to “re-see” with new clarity.

And so story is a common catalyst for inspiration.
